Taking A Taxi In A Big City: Important Dos And Don'ts

Posted on

Taking a taxi can be an economical way to get around a city or even to get from an airport to your actual destination when you don't have a personal vehicle. However, being a passenger in a taxi does come with some inherent responsibilities, both in terms of etiquette and safety. Specifically, there are a few things you'll want to do and some things to avoid doing when using a taxi service.

DO Carry Small Change

There are many reasons to carry small change with you when taking a taxi. For starters, having small change makes it easy for you to tip, even if you're paying with a credit card. If all you have are larger bills and the cab isn't equipped to accept a credit card, there is a chance that the driver won't be able to make change for you.

DON'T Take Frustration Out on Your Driver

When taking a taxi in a larger city, there are bound to be thousands of people trying to get to a similar place as you. Therefore, traffic jams and delays are often unavoidable. Don't take out any frustrations or road rage on your cab driver; chances are, he or she is just as frustrated as you and has already considered any alternate, time-saving routes. Never let conditions out of the driver's control (such as traffic) affect your cab driver's tip.

DO Check the Seat Before You Leave

The last thing you want is to accidentally leave something behind in the cab, so try to make it a habit to check the surroundings of your seat before you step out of the cab or pay your driver. If you're traveling from the airport and have bags in the trunk or back of the cab, don't forget to remind the driver. He or she will gladly obtain them for you in exchange for a tip.

DON'T Forget the Receipt

Finally, always get a receipt when you travel by taxi. Not only will this give you documentation of your ride and the cost thereof, but in the event that you do accidentally leave something behind, you'll be able to locate the identification number for the cab you rode in on your receipt, more than likely. By keeping all these tips in mind, you'll be sure to have a more enjoyable time the next time you're in a position where you need to travel by taxi, like those avialable from Farwest Taxi.
